On this day in 1966, Emperor Haile Selassie I made a state visit to Jamaica. Among the Rastafarians this was a divine visit as they regarded him as their God. It is to be remembered that Marcus had made a statement about looking to Africa where a Black King will be crowned King. Emperor Haile Selassie was crowned in 1930. The Rastafarians adopted his name –Ras Tafari (Prince Tafari) and looked to him.
The world almost came to a stop on this day in 2016 when Prince Rogers Nelson, singer, songwriter, instrumentalist, record producer, actor and director, succumbed to a drug overdose.
