Arthur Robert Ashe, Jr, tennis professional and champion, was born on this day in 1943 in Richmond, Virginia. He was the first African American to be a member to be a member of the US Davis Cup Team. He was also the first Black to win Wimbledon, the U.S. Open, and the Australian Open.
