Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of Ghana, was born in Nkroful, Ghana on this day in 1909.


 





On this day in 1872, John Henry Conyers enrolled as the first Black person at the United States Naval Academy.


 












Inventor F. W Leslie patented the envelope seal on this day in 1891.


 














Maria Stewart was an early anti-slavery crusader who, on this day in 1832 gave an address to the New England Anti-Slavery Society. It was generally considered as one of the rare times a woman in those days spoke to both Blacks and Whites.
