Akwasi Osei

‘Emperor Jones’ made its debut on the screens on this day in 1933. It was Paul Robeson’s first major movie in a starring role; it was also the first significant Hollywood movie with a Black person in the title role and Whites in supporting roles.



 







On this day in 1950, Henry Louis ‘Skip’ Gates was born in West Virginia. Skip Gates, an eminent scholar at Harvard University, is one of the major chroniclers of the African American Experience.
