Congressman Louis Stokes, lawyer, civil rights advocate, and politician was born on this day in 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1969, he became the first Black person to represent the state of Ohio.



 


William Edward Burghardt DuBois, arguably America’s greatest intellectual, was born on this day in 1868 in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. He was to become the greatest advocate of pan-Africanism and African emancipation.
