Christopher George Latore Wallace, popularly known as Notorious B.I.G, aka Biggie Smalls and Biggie, was assassinated on this day in 1997 in Los Angeles. He was only 24.
On this day in 1841, The United States Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Survivors of the Amistad Mutiny in their petition to be freed and return to their homes in Africa. The leader of the Mutiny, Joseph Cinque’, is reported to have said: “Brothers, we have done that which we proposed…I am resolved it is better to die than be a white man’s slave”
