Akwasi Osei

Julie Dash, the award-winning Black filmmaker was born on this day in 1952. Her best known work was the 1991 film, Daughters of the Dust, a groundbreaking Pan-African themed and female-centered film of Gullah women celebrating their African ancestry.




 

Bobby Seale, co-founder of the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense, is born on this day in 1936.
