Berry Gordy was the magician who created the Motown music machine. He was born on this day in 1929.


Ernie Davis made history when on this day in 1961 he became the first Black to win the Heisman Trophy as College Football’s best player. Unfortunately, he never played a professional game despite being the first pick in the 1962 National Football League Draft. He was diagnosed with leukemia and died in 1963.

On this day in 1908, Adam Clayton Powell, Jr, was born in New Haven, Connecticut. He became a Baptist minister and a civil rights activist. In 1945 was elected to Congress representing Harlem in New York City.
