Ronald Vernie Dellums was born on this day in 1935. He was one of the major Black politicians to have served Black people, spending almost three decades in Congress, and serving as the mayor of Oakland.

Duse Mohamad Ali was born on this day in 1866 in Egypt. He was a writer, scholar, journalist, actor, and all-out intellectual and internationalist who understood the power of history and knowledge in the service of the Pan African cause. He continued his education in England, moved to the United States to work with Marcus Garvey; and published a newspaper, The African Times and Orient. He eventually settled in Nigeria where he died in 1945.
