Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated, is one of the Divine Nine, the National Pan-Hellenic Council comprising Black Fraternities and sororities. It was organized by seven Black Women in Indianapolis, Indiana on this day in 1922.
On this day in 1977, The NAACP honored Alexander Haley with its Spingarn Award for his portrayal of the family saga ‘ROOTS’.
America said goodbye to Wilma Glodean Rudolph on this day in 1994. Ms. Rudolph became a world-record holder and multiple gold winner at two Summer Olympic Games in 1956 and 1960.
