On this day in 1886, M. A Cherry received a patent for the invention of the tricycle


 

Martin Robison Delany was born free on this day in 1812 in Charles Town, West Virginia. He became an abolitionist, journalist, soldier, writer, traveler, and to top it off, a physician. He was one of the first Black people to advocate not only Black Nationalism but also the idea of Africa for Africans.



 

Willie Howard Mays, Jr, popularly known as Willie Mays, one of the greatest athletes in American sports, was born on this day in 1931 in Westfield, Alabama. He spent 22 years playing center field for the New York/San Francisco Giants, and the New York Mets.
