On this day in 1900, the National Negro Business League was organized in Boston. It was led by Booker T Washington, and its main objective was to promote the interests of Black businesses.


 

The great professional basketball player Kobe Bryant, nicknamed the Black Mamba, was born on this day in Philadelphia, PA.









 



On this day in 1861, James Stone became the first Black person to enlist in the Union Army. He is reported to be a light skinned Black Man who passed for white.
