Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin, perhaps the best-known Russian poet, and the ‘father of Russian Literature’, died on this day in 1837 in Saint Petersburg in the former Russian Empire. Pushkin was also the most famous Russian of African descent.


Oprah Gail Winfrey, philanthropist, talk show host, television personality, actress, and writer, was born on this day in 1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi.
