Joseph Louis Barrow, also known as the Brown Bomber, and better known as Joe Louis in the boxing ring, was a beloved Black figure whose fights became moments of Black pride as he reigned supreme during the era of legal segregation. On this day in 1932, he defeated James Braddock to become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
