On this day in 1811, Harriet Elisabeth Beecher Stowe was born in Litchfield, Connecticut. A novelist, writer, and an abolitionist, she wrote her novel, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, a decidedly anti-slavery novel that sought to energize the anti-slavery movement. Indeed, it is reported that Uncle Tom’s Cabin was one of the factors that pushed America towards the Civil War.
