Medgar Wiley Evers was murdered on this day in 1963 at the height of the Civil Rights struggles in the South. In his capacity as the Field Secretary of the NAACP, he was the face of the struggle in Mississippi, fighting, among others, for voting rights, against segregation in schools, and in public facilities.



 





On this day in 1967, the U.S. Supreme Court decided Loving v Virginia, the case that declared that banning interracial marriage was unconstitutional.
