1817 Meeting against the American Colonization Society
In 1817, on this day, a large group of free Africans in Philadelphia met to show their indignation towards the American Colonization Society for sending Black people back to Africa. The rational was that the movement was depleting the voices of the small group of the free African population in the United States.
